Kindergarten Newsletter December 5, 2008
This Week We read fiction and non-fiction books about ladybugs. We made our own books about the ladybug’s life cycle. We learned about the letter L, and talked about words that begin with the /l/ sound. In math we made December calendars and calendar pieces for our classroom calendar. On Wednesday we had a great fieldtrip to see the giant puppet show Puss in Boots. The students had a great time. Thank you to all parents and grand parents who chaperoned this trip!
Next Week We will read books about different winter holidays such as Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa. We will be start making winter activity books. We will also do some ladybug addition.
News and Announcements o Please help your student complete their L homework and turn it in Monday for a star. o If we have not had a conference about your student, please sign up to come in before Winter Break. A sign-up sheet is now in the classroom. o December’s reading log (finally) went home yesterday, along with your student’s December calendar. Please help your student record the minutes you read together and return this sheet to me when we return to school in January. When your student returns this sheet they will earn a free Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut. o On December 19th we will have a festive breakfast to celebrate the holidays. There is a sign-up sheet for this party in the classroom. Also, on December 19th our class will do a book exchange. Your student will need to bring one new gift wrapped book that a boy or girl will like. After our gift exchange, which is similar to musical chairs, your student will get a new book to take home. o Our class has adopted one family with a father and an 8 year old boy for the holidays. I know that this year you have been asked to give, give, give, but this is a family from our school that is having a hard time, and I would like our class to help ease their burden this holiday. Please send in any toiletries like toothpaste, soap or shampoo, paper products, treats, and toys for an 8 year old boy. If everyone sends in one small item, we can all help this family have a better holiday. o Light-Up Micanopy will be on December 13th. Students need to be downtown in Micanopy at 4:45 pm for a singing performance at 5:00 pm. Students who attend will receive two stars. o We will be going on one last fieldtrip before the holidays. On Monday, December 15th our class will visit Mrs. Hillary’s Christmas House in small groups throughout the day. Mrs. Hillary is a Micanopy resident and a Christmas fanatic who loves sharing her decorations (and some cookies) with our students. We need two to four parents to chaperone: one or two from 9:00 to 10:15 and one or two from 10:15 to 11:45. There is no cost for this fieldtrip. Please sign and return the permission slip found in this week’s Friday Folder. If you can drive, please make note on the permission form.
